Tokyo Japan’s capital is the world’s most powerful tourism city according to a new report.
The report by Global Language Monitor GLM looked at the tourism cities of the world those that are most visited and generate the most revenue from tourism.
It found that Tokyo was the clear leader with an estimated 18.79 million international visitors in 2016 and tourism receipts of $19.7 billion.
London was in second place, with 16.86 million visitors and $18.82 billion in receipts, followed by Paris with 15.45 million visitors and $17.37 billion in receipts.
Rounding out the top five were Dubai 14.26 million visitors, $16.01 billion in receipts and New York City 12.75 million visitors, $13.6 billion in receipts.

The Big Apple topped the inaugural Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index which looked at 162 cities across six continents and measured their total travel related transactions everything from airfare and hotels to ground transportation and shopping.
NYC was followed by London, Paris, Bangkok and Dubai in the top five.
Rounding out the top 10 were Istanbul, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi and Tokyo.

The report by global marketing firm JWT Intelligence found that Dubai is the most visited city by international tourists, with 14.9 million visitors in 2016. It is also the top choice for city breakers, with 6.4 million people taking a short break in Dubai in 2016.
The report ranks cities on a number of factors including attractions, infrastructure safety and security and sustainability. Dubai topped the list for its world class infrastructure including its airports, hotels and transport links.
The city was also praised for its safety and security measures as well as its efforts to be sustainable. Dubai was named as the most sustainable tourism destination in the Middle East and Africa in 2017 by the World Travel & Tourism Council.

Looking ahead the Index predicts that Hong Kong will remain the world’s top destination for international travel with an estimated 28.5 million visitors in 2017.
